Stand-in

Common reasons:
- a player cannot travel, for example because of a visa problem;
- a player is ill or has a personal emergency;
- a player has just left the team and a permanent replacement is not ready yet.
Stand-ins are often taken from the team's academy roster, a player without a team, or the coach. A team playing with a stand-in usually performs worse: the stand-in does not know all of the team's plays, and communication is harder.
Rules matter. Tournaments limit when and how teams can use stand-ins. For invites based on the Valve Regional Standings, a team must keep at least three of the players it had when the standings were taken.
