LAN

The opposite is an online match, where each team plays from its own place, usually its practice room.
Why LAN matters:
- Fair conditions. Both teams have the same ping, the same equipment rules and referees on site.
- Pressure. A crowd, a stage and travel make LAN harder. Some teams that win a lot online struggle on LAN.
- Rankings. The Valve Regional Standings and the HLTV ranking give LAN wins extra weight. See CS2 Team Rankings Explained.
All Majors and nearly all top events are played on LAN. Many smaller leagues and qualifiers are online.
On R1GG team pages, the Performance block shows a team's record on LAN and online separately, so you can see whether a team's results hold up offline.
