What changed recently
In patch 13.08, two maps came in and two went out:
Removed maps are still in the game for unrated modes, and Riot often brings them back later. Bind, for example, has left and returned before.
How the pool rotates
- Riot changes the pool regularly, often at the start of a new act.
- Usually one or two maps change at a time, so teams do not have to learn everything again.
- A new map normally enters the competitive pool straight away, as Summit did on its release day.
This is quicker than in CS2, where the Active Duty pool changes only a few times a year.
Map pool in pro play
Pro events use a seven-map pool. Before each series, teams take turns banning and picking maps in the map veto. In a BO3, each team picks one map, and the last remaining map is the decider.
Big tournaments usually use the competitive pool at the time of the event, but the organizer decides.
Two-site and three-site maps
Most Valorant maps have two bombsites. Haven and Lotus have three, which changes the game a lot: Defenders have to spread thinner, and Attackers have more options. Teams that are strong on three-site maps often have very good communication and rotations.
