IGL (in-game leader)

IGL (in-game leader)

What an IGL does

  • Calls the plan: which site to attack, how to set up on defense.
  • Mid-round calls: switching sites, deciding when to retake or save.
  • Economy: when the team plays an eco, a bonus or a full buy.
  • Agent and map plans: often leads the team's compositions and map veto choices with the coach.

Why many IGLs play Controller

The Controller role already means watching the whole round and placing smokes for the team, so many IGLs play it. Others play Initiator or Sentinel.

IGLs often have lower stats, because calling takes attention away from aiming. Their value shows in team results.
