How Long Is a CS2 Match?

How Long Is a CS2 Match?

Quick answer by format

What you are watching or playingTypical length
Premier or Competitive match30 to 50 minutes
Pro BO1 (one map)40 to 60 minutes
Pro BO3 (two or three maps)2 to 3 hours
Pro BO5 (grand finals)3 to 5 hours

These are typical ranges, not limits. A one-sided map ends fast, a close one with overtime runs long.

Why a map takes 40 to 60 minutes

A map is played to 13 rounds in the MR12 format, so it lasts between 13 and 24 rounds before overtime. Each round can take up to 1:55 plus the bomb timer, freeze time and a short pause after it. See How Long Is a Round in CS2?

On top of that, pro matches add:

What makes a match longer

  1. Overtime. At 12-12, pro maps go to overtime blocks of 6 rounds. One overtime adds about 10 to 15 minutes; a map that needs several can pass 90 minutes. See CS2 Overtime Rules.
  2. A third map. A BO3 that goes 2-1 is roughly 50% longer than a 2-0.
  3. Breaks between maps. Organizers usually schedule a break of about 10 to 15 minutes between maps.
  4. Delays. Pro matches often start late if the previous match on the same stream ran long. If a match page shows a start time, the real start can be later.

What makes a match shorter

How this compares to CS:GO

CS:GO used MR15: first to 16 rounds, up to 30 rounds per map. CS2 switched to MR12, first to 13, up to 24 rounds. That cut roughly 10 to 15 minutes from a typical map.
