How it works: open qualifiers often start with hundreds of teams in a single or double elimination bracket, with BO1 matches early on. Only a few teams come out of them.

Why they matter: they are the path for new teams. Valve's rules for organizers push events to stay open, and results in qualifiers can help teams climb the Valve Regional Standings.

On R1GG, open qualifiers usually appear as D tier tournaments. See CS2 Tournament Tiers.
