Riot's Global Power Rankings

Riot launched the Global Power Rankings (GPR) in September 2025. It is built with Amazon Web Services and uses an Elo-style system.

  • Each team gets a Power Score that also takes into account how strong its region is on the international stage.
  • Recent matches count more, and so do international events and playoff matches.
  • It also looks at map and round differences, not only who won.
  • It updates daily, with the most movement during tournaments.

The GPR is meant as a snapshot of who is strongest, for example to help fans with Pick'Em predictions. It does not decide qualification.

Community rankings

Stat sites such as VLR.gg run their own team rankings. They often cover more teams than the GPR, including tier 2 and regional rosters. Each site uses its own formula, so the lists can differ a lot outside the top ten.

R1GG rating

The R1GG rating is our own rating, and it is not an official ranking. It works the same way as our CS2 rating:

  • Before each series, the two teams' ratings give an expected result.
  • After the series, both ratings move. An upset moves them a lot, an expected win only a little.
  • Only matches at Tier S, A and B events count. Bigger events and longer formats count a little more.
  • A team appears in the table once it has 5 rated series and has played in the last 90 days.
  • The Valorant rating is separate from our CS2 rating, so the two cannot be compared.

It updates after every completed match. The full method is on How the R1GG rating works.

What actually decides VCT spots

In Valorant, results at events decide who goes where:

  • Open Qualifiers send four teams per region to Kickoff.
  • The top three of each Kickoff go to Masters Seoul.
  • VCT Cups and Masters results decide the later international events.

See VCT 2027 Explained for the full path.

Why the lists disagree

  • Region strength. The GPR weights the region, so a team that wins a weaker region can rank lower than its record suggests.
  • Coverage. Lists that include tier 2 teams can rank a dominant open team above partner teams that never played it.
  • Level of events. Each list treats small events differently. The R1GG rating leaves out Tier C and D events entirely, while community rankings may count them. See Valorant Tournament Tiers.
  • Timing. Daily, weekly and per-match updates rarely line up on the same day.

FAQ

Is there an official Valorant team ranking?

Riot publishes the Global Power Rankings (GPR), launched in September 2025. It ranks VCT teams with an Elo-style model, but it does not decide who qualifies for Masters or Champions.

How do teams qualify for Masters and Champions?

By results at VCT events, not by a ranking. In 2027, the top three of each regional Kickoff go to Masters Seoul, and later events build on Cup and Masters results.

What is the R1GG rating for Valorant?

Our own Elo-style rating built from series results at Tier S, A and B events: beating a strong team moves a team up more than beating a weak one. It updates after every match and is not an official ranking.

Why do Valorant rankings disagree?

They count different things. Some weight regional strength or big wins, some only look at who beat whom, and they update at different times.
